Travel Sketchbook - Creature Thumbz
Mike Corriero --
Thursday, November 19, 2009 at 1:02 PM I have a small 8.5 x 5.5 sketchbook I doodle in a lot and have been sketching in entirely with Pigment liner pens. I basically just produce quick thumbnail ideas in this sketchbook, without too much thought put into what it is I'm sketching. The use of the sketchbook is to help the confidence of my strokes as I'm using pen and not pencil, and sketching at such a small scale lets me quickly go from one idea to the next without getting caught up in details.

"... without getting caught up in the details" hah.
You're my hero, Corriero.
looks more like details line drawings to me rather than thumnails, but it's awesome anyways :)
saved in my inspiration folder ^^
Shamelessly beautiful, you evil genius. Inspiring, as per usual, sir.
Cody - haha, well..individually being shown at their real scale as seen here at 72 dpi, they're really not that detailed and only take 1 or 2 min for each.
Nicolas - The size you're looking at here is the true scale, maybe a little bigger. The kind of details you see here are just little dots and some quick shading, in comparison to a full scale drawing I consider them quick thumbnails. They're a bit more precise than just a tiny scribble but they are thumbnails with lots of flaws, most lack real eyes, feet, etc.
William - thanks man, wasn't sure if these would be worth posting or not, glad u like them.
Beautiful work! I love these little drawings you do :D
Man these are great!
I love the bottom two pages the most. I love that majestic deer creature on the left.
Those are great ideas - working in pen and very small. Love these sketches!
Brynn - Thanks :)
Vinod - Thanks man, the one with the 4 antlers and the tree? It's always fun just modifying an existing animals design a little.
Chelsea - Thanks. I'm addicted to drawing thumbs now. :)

cheers
