District 9- concept art variants part 2

Forgot to post these... here is another round of variants, but with my own take on the aliens.  Made them more direct, stern, and militant.  I started to work on a full body verison, but happy enough to show the results yet.

Anywho, hope you digs,-Jason

I LOVE Commander (and Drone is pretty great also)! Beautiful colour and texture, great use of varied forms, excellent details... and those eyes are just superbly done. General is cool, too, but the relatively human eyes (socket shape and eyelids) fight with the bug-like eye in the center and various other biological things that are going on. That humanesque quality makes the maw seem like it should be a breathing apparatus, and the beetle-leg-like antennae thingies seem unlikely. He's badass-looking, don't get me wrong, but he doesn't fit with the other two (despite their shared origins). :)

I feel like the photorealistic sketchery that you previously mentioned you were shooting for is really beginning to kick in with your lighting and textures. Great stuff -- Inspiring -- looking forward to more!

Hey William, I agree with you about the human eye socket. Towards the end, I started to think that maybe I should try to incorporate some human element into the designs so they sorta match up with the designs that Weta had produced. But atlas... it just ended up not looking as if he belonged with the rest of the designs. The antennae can go as well, they are too thin for the rest of the design and functionality.
