- Helpful Bear Production's Launchs Kaiju Creature Design Contest, Judged By Terryl Whitlatch

Brandishing her traditional hardwood sword and hookscythes, and with her tribal symbols dyed onto her scarf and etched into her mandibles, this harpax warrior is ready for battle.

Sketched in pencil, colorized and rendered up a bit in photoshop. This species is part of a science fiction universe of mine that is slowly taking shape. She'll appear in a short story that I'm writing; if there's in interest, I'll post a link to that once it's finished.

She's beautiful! I'm excited to see this universe your working on and I can't wait to read the story this girl is in. I love her large claw on her front foot. Nice touch!

Just a fantastic and original design.
I would love to know more about this world.
Is it a novel? graphic novel?

Thank you very much, Brynn and Rob!
This world I'm creating began with this piece: . Just a creature design, with some colorful text to add more depth to the concept, explore ideas, and generally make things more interesting. It became a series of images with accompanying text, and with each one the narrator and the universe became a little more fleshed out. For one of the designs, I wrote something more of along the lines of a short story, in an attempt to introduce some sort of dramatic plot to the world. I'll be doing that again with this design.

I hope to make it an illustrated novel along the lines of Wayne Barlowe or Brom at some point, but that's going to wait until I feel I have enough chops to tackle such an undertaking successfully.

My gallery of images and stories that take place in this world can be found here:

By the way, what code do I use to make links here, rather than just URLs?

I must congratulate you on creating a believable sentient non-humanoid. It seems that in most fantasy or sci-fi worlds, sentient species are either extremely humanoid, or really farfetched. This is neither; well done! Does this world of yours have many other octipedal creatures like this one?

William B. Hand and illuminatiscott, thank you very much!

Illuminatiscott, most of my other aliens in this universe are either hexapods or tetrapods. You can check them out at this URL: .
