Moai Finally Posts

Hello, everybody! I figured it was finally time to actually post something here. Unlike most of the other artists here, I'm not a pro, just a student and enthusiast. I hope to be a pro someday soon, though.

I have numerous personal projects going on currently. Here are the creatures involved with some of them. I posted several of these at the old creature blog, but I thought I'd post them again to the new audience here. I apologise if some of these are repeats for you.

The following several critters are part of a personal project of mine involving aliens living on a space station. I write short stories to accompany each alien, but since this is an art blog and not an amateur fiction blog, I'll leave those out. The top one is my most recent creature design.

The following two images were made for an alternate Earth project of mine.

These two creatures are based on extinct predatory marsupials that lived in South America.

The following creature, also from the same alternate Earth project, is my version of a manticore.

The following creature is a ficticious deity that I made up. Long, long ago, a legendary hero chopped off his head, and ever sence he's been single-mindedly searching for a new one. Make sure you don't leave your head unattended when he's around.

The rest of these are just various other aliens and creatures that I've made over the last year or so.

These are gorgeous. You have a way of taking real world animal anatomy and reimagining it in the most delightfully original ways. Your rendering skills have only gotten more sensitive and more refined with each new piece I see from you. The only thing that makes you 'not a pro' in my mind is that you're focusing on school and your studies for now. Once you've completed that work you'll have to beat back the clients with a stick. You are one of my oldest friends in this community and definitely the one who has grown the most. You should feel nothing but pride your your accomplishments to date and the work ethic we both know you'll carry into the future.

The newest piece is just killer, which I know I already said over on DA... but, hey... where's that wonderful mermaid you did? I know she's 'just a mermaid' but she's lovely and deserves to be shown everywhere you can.

Cheers, mate. Yer one in a million. :)

The latest creature at the top is all kinds of awesome,
The head really draws me in and the little details in areas others may not notice. I like how you carried over the blue into the pattern on the face as well. Great skin textures.

brilliant stuff man.... i'm totally jealous of all of this. I don't think you will have ANY problem getting a job once you are out of school.

Thanks so much guys! I'm overwhelmed by the response I'm getting here.

MJ- Thanks so much, man. I have indeed worked hard and improved a bit over the past few years, thanks in large part to the encouragement and inspiration of my online art buddies.
About the mermaid...despite what you say, I don't thank she quite fits the subject matter here.:) I've been meaning to spruce her up and post and updated version, though.

Mike Corriero- Thanks, man! Both the skin textures and the blue facial markings were unplanned, sort of happy accidents. I was really excited when they started taking shape.

Davi- Thanks! That's heartening to hear.:)

Keun Chul- Thanks, man! Your formidable rendering skills and innovative designs are a constant inspiration to me.

Luca- Thank you!

William B. Hand- Thanks, man. I put some special effort into that guy, so I'm glad he's been so well received. As for professional positions, I don't think my skill sets are well-r0unded enough as of yet. I very high confidence in my creature design skills, but only moderate confidence in my figure and character design skills. I'm hard at work chipping away at those. Architecture and mechanical design are still firmly outside my comfort zone. I'll be doing some work to change that over the next few months, though.:)

Yep here's another fan of your work :] What I've always liked about your work is the solid anatomical info you put into your designs, makes the design looks intelligent rather than accidental.

The top creature is one of my favorites here, not only because of the awesome and original design but you also seem to get better in rendering form there :] The green dude with the red bulb on it's head is cool too.

One small crit on several of these (including your latest creation) is to work on the balance of the poses. Some of them seem to be slightly off-balance because of placement of feet and angle of the body.

Post moar! :D

Moai, I second and third what everyone here has said. You're understanding of workable anatomy, color and life in general has always been an inspiration to me. The latest work is probably the most beautiful thing I've seen you do. Textures are out of this world. Glad to see you're finally putting up some of your great works. Looking forward to much more from you my friend.

Guido- Thanks! I do feel like I had a small breakthrough in rendering form and texture on that top one. Thanks for the crit regarding the balance of the poses. I shall pay special attention to that from now on.

David- Thanks, man! More to come soon!

Moai... with every piece u getting better and better. Love all of them but the first three are simple awesome.
