Jason Felix creature...

Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at 12:17 AM Hello,
Its my first time posting here and really jazzed to be a part of it. Some great stuff floating around here and very inspiring.
Against my will, I took on a gig to help someone pitch their movie proposal... for free. Yeah, its a big Taboo word. Fortunately it turned out for the best and have a good piece for my portfolio. Plus, for once, I can actually share this with everyone because its not being held back by some lame NDA.
Hope you enjoy,
-Jason

Cool design, man! I see elements of insect, arachnid, and even some lamprey in the design. Great textures, too. Is that an eye on its shoulder?
Welcome to the blog!
It's a solid design, and taps directly into a horror/creature aesthetic that I cherish beyond reason. Also, I am digging the overall feel of the piece -- your use of blurring here really sells the sense of intensity, not just via a feeling of movement, but moreso the crazy focus that the brain would have if presented with such a nightmarish vision in person. Good job. As it sounds like this was a transitional piece for you, I look forward to seeing where it takes you, even if it means you're not getting paid ;) . If I ever actually get to create the mechanized-alien-creature-garden-zoo-museum that I dream about, I'd love to have a life-size version of this lumbering around in the horror section. That may be some time away, though. (And if anyone here is already building one, please hire me immediately.) Isn't this a great idea though? The creatures could be autonomous and wander around their enclosures... There'd be this whole section that'd be like a museum of alien creature discoveries, and biological details, and fake births and hatchings on video or as live shows... I think it would be HUUUGE. But, sorry, I digress. Hopefully it's a good thing when a picture you do vividly reminds someone of their dreams, causing them to type extra. :P
awesome indeed!
glad to see you finally got a chance to post jason!
I really like the core shapes, but what really sold it for me are the little hands at the bottom; I can picture it running by really fast and just snatching up babies and exiting the scene. "oh god what just took my babies!!!" *off the background the viewer hears crunching noises*
love that blurrrrr :)
it was great to meet you at the dallas workshop :D
Thank you! This piece is a new direction for me and will like to work on some film projects in the near future. Fingers crossed!
