Cthulhu mask

I've been a fan of Lovecraft's writing since I was young and always fancied having a stab at 'Something That Should Not Be Named'. I got the chance as part of a private commission for a LARP company in Holland last year to make a mask (which currently doubles as a Mind Flayer - the rest of Cthulhu's body is in the planning stages and I'll be starting on it in a month or so). I fancied the idea of multiple eyes and just trying to get away from the 2 eyes depicted in most representations I've seen over the years. Actually, having sculpted him once I fancy having another stab at him sometime - bigger tentacles, change some of the general details and spend a bit more time on the actual sculpt (it's always an issue when budget/deadlines are part of the process, but such is life eh?)

Oh, I like this! They eyes and carapace holes work great, but what really is refreshing to me in this interpretation is the earthwormy tenacle route you took. Mouth is nice too. :) What is this sculpted/cast in?
Thanks William - to be honest, looking at all the other beautiful work on display here I was pretty hesitant at showing my own stuff, so I'm pleased you like it. The sculpt was in Plastiline and the final mask is just slip-cast latex since the budget was pretty tight.
The mask is available to buy by the way.
I like this. The holes in the head and multiple eyes makes me feel a bit uneasy when looking at him, which is good. Most Cthulhus look... well, kind of cute.
Thanks - it really was a conscious effort to try something less 'humanoid' - just wish I'd had a few more days on the actual sculpt.
..and the air vents are all viewing holes, the largest one on the side was actually sculpted as an eye, but had to be removed to give better peripheral vision.
What might the price tag be for this mask? Feel free to email me directly
Hi Greg,
Sorry I haven't got back to you before now, I've been away. For a mask like this (with fibreglass inner shell and adjustable harness) you're looking at about £450 plus P+P. By the way, his body is completed now, so once the client's had their unveiling I'll post some more pics.

Where can we find a mask as this one, for a life-size role play?
