Extraction Plains - Lephauntis Update & some Sketches
Mike Corriero --
Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at 11:21 AM I haven't had much to share here lately, there has been some amazing stuff posted the past few weeks.
This was an image I had worked on a while back and only now had the chance to put the final touches on, but I'm happy with how it turned out. I worked on this image back and forth in b&w and color to focus heavily on the values. I wanted to populate it as this is a general concept for a personal project of mine intended to be a video game. Some inspiration came from "Shadow of the Colossus" and "Hellboy 2". I hope you like it.

Someone who used to work in the film industry as a special FX make-up artist/sculptor showed interest in wanting to sculpt the creature Lephauntis, so I update it with additional details and tried fixing some flaws in the anatomy. I also included a lay over with design notes.

Also part of that personal project, from the first image - some rough ideas.

Damn, Mike! Great stuff, especially the drawings in the bottom half of the post. That chicken/insect (chickensect?) critter two images below the fallen angel guy is my favorite creature design I've ever seen from you, I think.
I am very partial to all the insectoidalismic stuffs, and that multi-legged dragon type +!
Woah I love the instectoids and the screaming dragon thing too, dang cool stuff.
jarrod
they're so darn imaginative! your works are superb!!
Wonderful post Mike! Love the top environment! It's great to see your critters moving around in a world like this. Love the sketches! I've come back to this post quite a few times. Also, I have your book and look through it constantly! Keep up the excellent work! :)
Thanks for all the kind words guys.
Brynn - glad to hear that, thanks :)
Jarrod - thanks man, dragon-like creatures and paleo inspired designs are always fun.
Cory - the 1 with the really long hind legs, and small vestigial hind legs, that kinda has a shrimp-like back tail and a 3 way split mouth? That was a tiny doodle 1/3 the size you see here, I did recently..
William - thanks man, insect/bird combinations are always fun and interesting to explore. :)
Gio - thanks man
